Dear Distinguished Guests and Esteemed Scholars,
On behalf of the organizing committee, we extend our heartfelt welcome to the Joint Symposium on “Advancing Tradition and Innovation: Challenges, Opportunities, and Prospects in Chinese Medicine and Natural Products.”
In the face of 21st-century global health challenges and an aging population, the wisdom derived from nature and traditional medicine plays an increasingly vital role. This symposium brings together experts and scholars from diverse fields, bridging traditional Chinese and Western medicine, natural products, free radical science, and complementary medicine, with the aim of exploring sustainable pathways for future healthcare.
This joint event is co-endorsed by two prestigious global academic organizations—The Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) and the International Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE)—reflecting the international community’s recognition and support for Taiwan’s research in natural products, traditional medicine, and free radical science. This endorsement not only highlights Taiwan’s longstanding contributions to these fields but also underscores our ongoing engagement with global scientific discourse.
The symposium integrates four major academic conferences: the 40th Symposium of Natural Products, the 25th Symposium of the Society for Free Radical Research – Taiwan, the 2025 Symposium of the Taiwan Association for Traditional and Complementary Medicine, and the 1st Annual Symposium of the Society of Chinese Pharmacceutical Sciences – Taiwan. It also features outstanding research presentations from the Center for Drug Research and Development at Chang Gung University of Science and Technology and the Chinese Medicine Research Center at China Medical University, alongside the annual achievement presentation from the Division of Pharmacy and Chinese Medicine, Department of Life Sciences, National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). These collective efforts showcase Taiwan’s breadth and depth in the fields of Chinese medicine and natural product research.
Over the years, Taiwan has accumulated solid foundations and impressive results across a broad spectrum of research areas, including medicinal plants and natural resource utilization, natural product drug development, free radical research, single and compound Chinese herbal medicines, translational research, novel drug discovery, complementary therapy, clinical trials, and the modernization of Chinese medicine. These achievements have strengthened the scientific credibility of traditional therapies and responded to the growing global demand for natural and integrative medicine.
We are also encouraged to see that the Taiwanese government, through the enactment of the Chinese Medicine Development Act, has established a comprehensive policy framework to support the institutionalization and internationalization of Chinese medicine. This has provided a robust foundation for academic research, talent cultivation, technological innovation, and industry collaboration.
As the host institution of this symposium, the College of Chinese Medicine at China Medical University is committed to integrating tradition and innovation. For years, we have dedicated ourselves to education, research, and clinical practice while actively fostering partnerships with academic institutions both in Taiwan and abroad. Through this event, we hope to provide an open, interactive, and interdisciplinary platform for the exchange of knowledge, the convergence of wisdom, and the generation of innovative ideas and cross-disciplinary collaborations.
Finally, we thank all distinguished guests and participants for joining us, and we deeply appreciate the tireless efforts of the organizing team and supporting partners. Let us gather in Taichung to witness this pivotal moment in the development of Chinese medicine, free radical science, complementary therapies, and natural products, as we move toward a healthier and more sustainable future.
Wishing you a successful conference and a rewarding experience.
